Mall Santas are a classic when it comes to holiday portraits… but there's something unsatisfying about them. I’m not sure if it's the brutal line, the crying kids, or the stagnant ‘sit on Santa's lap’ pose, but it never truly captures the potential for Christmas spirit.
Something that has stood out to me is the connection between the children and Santa. Personalizing the experience with the kids’ names and interests makes it that much more special to them. And imagine coming back the following year to Santa still remembering your dog's name that came into the studio previously! The point is, creating a bond with an on set actor like Santa has proven to create better memories. Those smiles become a touch more genuine, the laughs echo through the room, and the magic becomes real. All of that genuine energy transfers through the lens and captures a photo surrounding that moment. When that moment is special, the photo becomes even more magical.
It gets even more interesting when those teenagers pose with a mall santa, holding their little siblings hand to create some comfort. But at that moment, do they feel the Christmas spirit? The older kids often feel excluded and disappointed with holiday portraits. But what if a studio created an experience that brought back those jolly ol’ smiles? The entire family having fun and capturing memories sounds too good to be true! Luckily, it is never too late to make sure that everyone feels the warmth of Christmas, especially with some of Santa's cookies and milk!
Holiday portraits are something that become not only a tradition, but an heirloom to look back on each year. They should capture the true heart of your family and be something to look forward to each year.
